Ait Chribou

A place where time stands still

Ait Chribou (pronounced Ejt Shribo) is the name of the village located in the Atlas Mountains, three kilometers from the town of Ouaouizeght.

The Berber people

Morocco’s indigenous people are the Berbers. Their home is the Atlas Mountains, where they have lived long before the Arabs arrived and formed what is today known as Morocco.

Freedom

Freedom is important to the Berbers—you can feel it when visiting the area. Another striking aspect is their hospitality, along with the sense that they have “all the time in the world.”

Simplicity

There are no street names, no mailboxes, no municipal water, sewage, or waste collection. People here live much as they always have, and it feels like stepping 100 years back in time.

Naturalness

Without washing machines, the women do laundry at the spring. Without cars, everyone has their own donkey for transport. Without running water, donkeys carry water home from the spring. And without electricity, food is cooked over an open fire or with gas.

In the heart of Morocco

Ait Chribou is located at an altitude of 1,100 meters in the Atlas Mountains. The journey from Marrakech airport takes about four hours.

Ait Chribou is our base as we explore the Atlas Mountains, the countryside, and the rich traditions of the Berber people together.
